Feeling the Chill Scoring this Icelandic Survival Thriller; ARCTIC!

Notably the best modern-day survival story, and selected for the Cannes Film Festival Camera d'Or Award for best picture, Joe Penna and Ryan Morrison made strides as they took to one of mother natures most dire terrains, as film star Mads Mikkelsen has one of the most intense acting experiences he's ever had, and I had the pleasure of interpreting the sounds for the trailer score. Plot: A man is stranded somewhere in the Arctic Circle waiting for rescue. His daily routine co

    A 'Pink Elephant Parade' Reimagined.

One fun, psych-rock, reinterpretation of the infamous scene from Disney's 'Dumbo' (1941), the Pink Elephant Parade. Ultimately a sound replacement project, Jack Shannon and I took on the tripped out scene, and made it our own. Our mission was to re-create and re-record everything in a selected 4 min clip, from dialogue, through to foley and abstract sound design; reimagining the film's original effects and mood, giving the scene a modern twist. Also, playing out into a brand

    Some much needed WIZDOM!

Recently, depression had gotten the better of a dear friend. And music being a major outlet for emotional stress, I started putting together 'All My Friends'. But I needed some lyrical help, to cement a positive approach, and hopefully relay a message to anyone else who has been struggling with depression. Jake Moggy Hardy, aka WIZDOM, was the only man for the job. This lyrical wit, and rapper extraordinaire has been a long-time friend of mine, and has been writing for much l

    Floating 'AWAY' with DORAH JACSON

Natural talent can be hard to find, but when I heard this young gem, I knew straight 'away' that Dorah Jacson could be the next big name in the indie scene. I got in touch with her for a small show I had put together in Noosa. She played her set, and completely stole the hearts of all the punters, including mine. So without coming across creepy or over-inviting, I insisted that we should work together... this conversation happened months ago... Now... I'm extremely proud to a

Soultana (High on a Cool Wave)

The first official release from Noosa's own psychedelic sun-strokes, DEAR DOONAN. Soultana (High on a Cool Wave) began as an addictive jam, composed by the band in their early stages. It consists of a driving funk bass groove played by Julian Patrick Homewood. Accompanied by a heavy set beat performed by Jamie Devers on the skins. StinkinJim Smith brings the 'blaps' to the funky rhythm guitar as Steve Summers leads the psychedelia with his wahh-too-fuzzrocious guitar licks. S

Jane Street Sampling - Featuring Snoop Dogg

Sampling! One of the fastest ways to create original music. We took a Zoom H4 Handy Recorder, a set of headphones, and a drum stick, and wandered down to Jane Street in West End. We sticked a bunch of different objects an textures, and recorded the impact the best we could. We recorded things like, timber pallets, that we smacked with the palm of our hands (Kick), steel posts, when struck, gave us a resonant 'ting' (Bell), car tyres, a nice thud (Tom), and a stack of leaves (

    Getting Granular

Granular Synthesis is the concept of processing synthesis using granulation. Granulation, or 'Grains', are the divided slices of a sample or waveform, which are then reorganised to form another waveform. Basically it represents sound as a stream of grains. Grains can vary in duration, amplitude, and internal details such as pitch and pan. Granular synthesis is the core technology behind the latest time-stretching and pitch-shifting algorithms, but it can also be used to gener

    Affordable Synthesis

Robert Arthur Moog was a man who pretty much reinvented the synthesiser, and made it more portable and practical for the electronically minded musician. Now days, these things can cost up to 5k. Probably more. Now days, it's a little more affordable and way more accessible to play with the software synths in our favourite DAWs. ES2 Synthensizer The ES2 Synthesizer, Logic Pro X's most sophisticated virtual analogue synth, is one of my personal, go-to software synths. It offers
